The Oregon Network ACO

WHAT IS AN ACO AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

According to CMS: "In an accountable care relationship, doctors and other health care providers work with each other and their patients to manage their patients’ overall health, all while considering their patients’ personal health goals and values. These relationships can improve patients’ quality of care in the following ways:

  • Patients are less likely to get repeat medical tests or unnecessary medical services.
  • Doctors and other health care professionals consider a patient’s entire health history when developing a treatment plan and how it will complement other treatment plans put in place by other doctors for different health issues.
  • Doctors and other health care professionals communicate and collaborate with each other to improve their patients’ long-term health and prevent serious health issues or hospitalization."

Additionally, ACO members who improve patient health outcomes and thereby reduce Medicare spending may share in a portion of those savings. In short, ACO participation ensures your health center is rewarded for providing exceptional care.

ABOUT EnactOR, OUR ACO

EnactOR affiliates serve just under 9,000 Medicare patients across Oregon with integrated primary, dental, behavioral health, and social health care. EnactOR members are Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) that provide care to any patient, regardless of a person’s ability to pay or their insurance type. The Oregon FQHC’s came together to form the ACO in 2022 when Medicare announced the re-opening of the Medicare Shared Savings Program to invite additional ACO’s to join the program.

“The formation of the Network's ACO ensures that we can provide patients with the right care, at the right time for improved outcomes and interactions with healthcare,” said Network Director Carla Jones. “This is possible through case management, an emphasis on data performance, a strong focus on prevention, and through sharing best practices with each other. Additionally, an ACO avoids unnecessary duplication of services and prevents medical errors.”

The FQHCs in the EnactOR increase their knowledge within a value-based payment model, collaborate with partnered FQHCs, and make vital decisions to promote a cohesive system. EnactOR is looking forward to succeeding both in delivering high-quality care and spending healthcare dollars more wisely, leading to sharing in the savings it achieves for the Medicare program.
